2011-44 - Do Not...

Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others.
It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Do not set your goals by what other people deem important.
Only you know what is best for you..

Do not let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past nor for the future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.

Do not give up when you still have something to give.
Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
It is a fragile thread that binds us to each other....

Do not be afraid to encounter risks.
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give love; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly.

Do not dismiss your dreams.
To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.

Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

2011-43 - The Life We Choose…

Here's the premise: We are all, right now, living the life we choose.
This choice, of course, is not a single, monumental choice. No one decides, for example, "I'm going to move to L.A., and in five years I will be a waiter in a so-so restaurant, planning to get my 8-by-10's done real soon so that I can find an agent and become a star," or "I'm going to marry a dreadful person and we'll live together in a loveless marriage, staying together only for the kids, who I don't much like, either."
No. The choices I'm talking about here are made daily, hourly, moment by moment.
Do we try something new, or stick to the tried-and-true? Do we take a risk, or eat what's already on our dish? Do we ponder a thrilling adventure, or contemplate what's on TV? Do we walk over and meet that interesting stranger, or do we play it safe? Do we indulge our heart, or cater to our fear?
The bottom-line question: Do we pursue what we want, or do we do what's comfortable?
For the most part, most people most often choose comfort - the familiar, the time-honoured, the well-worn but well-known. After a lifetime of choosing between comfort and risk, we are left with the life we currently have.
And it was all of our own choosing.

2011-42 - Do what you love...

Last year when speaking with Bill Gates at an All Things Digital conference, Jobs responded to a question about how entrepreneurs can hope to have the same success he has with Apple. His response was simple - you need to have a passion for what you do, "otherwise any rational person would give up".
"Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition," he said in his famous commencement speech in 2005. "They somehow already know what you truly want to become."
Jobs was successful because he cared about his products. He was so hands-on that he finalised key details, including the exact weight of products, to the type of wood that was to be used in Apple's retail stores.
Only someone who cared about these products would go to such a high level of detail. But it is exactly this tendency to place such a high priority on seemingly unimportant bits and pieces that makes Jobs' dedication to innovation a lesson all entrepreneurs must take to heart.

2011-41 - Triumph over doubt...

Every action you take, is a triumph of your courage over your doubts. Go ahead and make the effort. Go ahead and see it through. Sure you have doubts. Everyone does. They must not be allowed to stop you.
Idleness gives strength to your doubts, and as doubts grow stronger they immobilize you even more. If you let them, your doubts will quickly become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Yet as soon as you begin to take action, those doubts begin to lose their power. As soon as you start to make it happen, the doubts seem less and less real. Doubts may grow in your idleness to overwhelming proportions, but they have no power against your actions.
Take the first step and watch your doubts step back. Keep on going, and leave them far behind.
~ Ralph Marston
