2017-48 - Feelings…

I think that's what's wrong with the world;

No one says what they really feel, they always hold it inside.

They're sad, but they don't cry.

They're happy, but they don't dance or sing.

They're angry, but they don't scream.

Because, if they do, they feel ashamed and that's the worst feeling in the world.

So everyone walks with their heads down, and no one sees how beautiful the sky is.

2017-47 - Hell... and Heaven...

In feudal Japan, the fierce Samurai Warriors carried large swords and were highly skilled at using them.

One day, a famous samurai arrived at a monastery, where he flung open the door and demanded of a famed monk, "Tell me, what is heaven and what is hell?"

The monk sat still for a moment, then turned and looked up at the warrior. "You call yourself a samurai," he said. "Look at you. You're nothing but a wastrel!! I doubt you could cut off the head of a fly with your sword."

For a moment, the samurai stood gaping. Then, like a crazed bull, the samurai's face contorted in rage. He bellowed, "How dare you insult me thus!" Pulling his huge sword from its sheath, he raised it high above his head, ready to kill the old monk.

Unperturbed, the monk looked directly into the eyes of the furious warrior and said, "This is hell."

The samurai froze, and as the hatred and anger that had consumed him drained away, realized that this small, stooped man had risked his life to answer his question. Lowering his weapon, the samurai bowed to the monk, as tears of gratitude appeared in his eyes. "Thank you for your teaching," the samurai said humbly, with love for the monk's gift.

The monk smiled at the samurai and said, "And this, my friend, is heaven."

2017-46 - What is love...

A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.

And yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not. As I wrote that farewell column to Marley, I realized it was all right there in front of us, if only we opened our eyes.

Sometimes it takes a dog with bad breath, worse manners, and pure intentions to help us see.

2017-45 - I Hope...

I hope you learn that choosing yourself, will always be the most beautiful love language you can ever learn.

I hope you learn never to betray your intuition.

I hope you learn to open your soul and listen when god is speaking to you.

I hope you learn to grow from past inflictions.

I hope you stop using the past as an excuse for stagnancy, and realize your divinity.
