2018-26 - Love

Do not assume that you know what love is, until you learn what respect is. And do not assume that you're a good person, if you don't know what empathy is.

Until you can love yourself, and feel compassion for the suffering of another person, you will not be able to love anyone.

You can feel love but you can't love.

To feel and to do is not the same.

You can choose to feel love and share hate, or feel love and share compassion. Same feeling, different behavior.

2018-25 - Advice...

Terry one day asked me “How did you make it to the top?”

I thought a while before responding “Don't look over your shoulder or let fear and anxiety rule you. Go for broke. Let passion blaze your trail. Look ahead and pursue the dream that fits who you are as a person and a manager.”

Later in the day when I met him again, I added “Learn what you can, but don't get bogged down.
Learn enough, then trust your gut and act. Be bold - or crazy - enough not to hold back. And, when the game is over, regardless of the score, you'll revel in what you've done.”

2018-24 - Dad's...

I've watched my dad move our family from extreme poverty to extreme wealth and then everywhere in between.

Never once did I see or hear him be anything but a cheerleader for the accomplishments of others. It didn't matter if he was down or up in life, he wanted everybody around him to succeed. I've even watched him praise the very people that have tried to destroy him over the years and then very publicly wish them success and happiness.

He taught me the enthusiasm that should always come at the success of others. He constantly taught me that when others succeed, it gives us all more opportunity to succeed.

2018-23 - Eye of the beholder...

It seems like everyone these days is putting on a mask to feel beautiful, trying to fit into some pre-established norms of how we should look.

This isn't only painful, it's ignorant. Saying like we know, better than nature does, what is beautiful and what is not is like a two-year-old lecturing an old man about patience. Nature has been creating beauty for millennia and you are part of that creation process. Stop the madness. Stop fighting who you are. Let the mask fall.

It'll be strange at first, yes. But, over time, you'll see beyond the temporary discomfort of stepping outside social norms and learn to see the beauty you were born with. You'll see beauty that will take your breath away, like a sunset. That's how beautiful you are - like a sunset, like a forest, like a million fireflies on a calm warm night lighting up the sky.

Go find that brilliant beauty within every single part of you. Remove that cloak that's been pulled over your eyes and see yourself for who you really are.
